Hangman meets platformer

Made for Wowie Jam 3.0 (failure is progress)

Guess a random word or speedrun  "WOWIE" within 1:24 ;)

Gamemodes:
Random (Casual) mode: Guess a random word
Speedrun mode: Make the word "WOWIE" as fast as possible.
My personal record: 1:24, please post your times below!

Controls:
Move: arrows, WASD or Gamepad left stick
Jump: arrow up, w, spacebar or GamePad button south
Dash: left shift or GamePad button east

GRAB THE SPAWNING BITS (GREEN 0 AND 1), IF YOU HAVE 8 THEY WILL REVEAL A CHARACTER!

Context:

You are a hacker and try to use the terminal to do a brute force attack and get someone's password.

Hack the password by jumping on characters to change them, but don't get caught by the cursors.
Or do die, since it will reveal if you were correct with the last alteration.
Collect bits of information to be able to brute force a character and get it correct.

There only is 11 million possibilities. No matter how you do it, every attempt will get you closer.

There also is a speedrun mode where the word is always the same (WOWIE).
My personal best time is 1:24, with exactly 1 minute playtime and 24 seconds punishment.
I look forward to seeing what kind of exploits u can come up with ;)

For optimal experience playing with a controller is recommended.
This allows for dashing in any direction.

is there a way to know what direction the letter is going to change? its really important for speedrun mode...

If you move left the character goes 1 down, if you move right it goes 1 up. The threshold seems to be a bit too high right now, so if you play with controller, give your left stick a good punch in the direction you want. If you steer too little the direction won't change. With keyboard there is no problem. I will fix this after the jam ends.

Thanks for playing!

Controls are WAY too slippery

also how do you dash down?

Thanks for the feedback. I would advise to play with a controller since it works better, although keyboard should also work. You can dash down by dashing while steering down.

Ahh, you played 2 hours ago. There was a bug where the new input system causes the player to keep moving, even when buttons are released for keyboard. I only tested with a controller, but a friend pointed this out to me. By adding 1 line of code I was able to fix it and uploaded the fixed version at 14:30. I still prefer a controller though ;)

thank you!
